.rhkmvtag is supposed to be the output of cat /proc/version, if you change
it the init scripts for RedHat won't recognize that directory as the correct
module directory. If you're getting the module mismatch, looks like vmware
requies you to compile with support for SMP. This will work just fine with
a single processor machine.
