Re: [TCLUG:9416] MediaOne Roadrunner and Linux
A reserved yes, depending on what you mean.. It is available in RedHat, Caldera
and SuSe (but it was not in some like Debian, and not know in Slackware, perhaps
the newer releases have it).
Just read the HowTo's I will to get something written up tonight, I just used IPmasq
and portfw on a firewall I just setup a month ago.
I think what you are looking for is kernel support plus you will want the
ipmasqadm, which does the port forwarding in newer releases. (mostly taken
from BSD)
1. Get a fresh 2.2 kernel. Recompile as specified in the HowTo's and
depending on what use you need.
(at least a kernel not less than 2.2.11).
And check for patches..

2. Down load 'ipmasqadm.c'
http://juanjox.kernelnotes.org/
Use this as you would have used ipautofw or ipportfw, except instead of
ipportfw you type ipmasqadm portfw, and instead of ipautofw you type
ipmasqadm autofw.
- There were a few other changes if I remember correctly. But basically
it was easy to setup.
Here is the IP_Masquerading for linux site:
http://ipmasq.cjb.net/
Here are a few of the related how to's.
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO.html
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IPCHAINS-HOWTO.html
That reading should get you a good start.
