Postgres/MySQL

Does anyone have any experience in building Front ends for MySQL/Postgres in
Visual basic?  Basically what I want to know are they pretty standard as far
as SQl goes and Front End Stuff?  or is their special stuff I should know?
Any info or incite would be greatly appreciated.
