therein lies the rub. in a corporate environment, where you have
*many* heterogenous machines; possibly with remotely-mounted filesystems (or
at least remotely maintained filesystems); and people knowlegeable enough to
maintain them; it makes sense to split off as much "shareable" stuff as
possible.
for a home/small environment, where one does not need (or want) to
worry about such things; the extra complexity is a _bad thing_.
I'm willing to bet there are (or will be) more of the latter than the
former; and those in the former situation will be smart enough to be able to
do things their own way, anyway.
