Fsck Stuff

Is there something like fsck that does a hardware check on a drive?  For
example Checking fro bad sectors, disk IO errors, then marks the sectors
as bad so the OS doesn't try to use them?
	I'm running linux 2.3.8 with ext2 partitions...
