    There is one blatant HW requirement that I'm surprised no one has
mentioned yet.  If your server is going to be using a modem, you must
use a hardware modem.  You are not going to get any of these cheap Win
modems to work since they need special Windows software to drive them.

    Beware of Win printers as well.  Some printer manufactures, QMS
comes to mind, develop what appear to be beautiful printers which you
will never get to run under Linux because they need special Windows
drivers and the manufacturer is too paranoid to publish the specs so
equivalent drivers can be written for Linux.  All HP and Postscript
printers are supported though. 8-)
