Re: [TCLUG:17351] cable modems again

Terrible latency. Only after 1AM can you expect decent latency for a nice
game of quake. (Their techies claim that anything under 200ms is OK - that
is dial-up modem latency and not what you would expect from a cable modem).
Down time is attrocious. I was down very often. There were spells when
they were up for weeks at a time and then they were plagued with problems
again. Their email services suck and they refuse to upgrade them. Their
news (NNTP) service sucks - forced to outsource. There was almost always
packet loss at one time or another. At one point yesterday evening (my
brother's modem again) packet loss was 17%. Because of this - downloads
frequently stall and finally give up. They don't allow the running of any
services at all. They won't allow the hosting of game servers (probably not
enforced unless abused). Their technical support is full of amateurs.
"Please - rebuild the TCP/IP stack". Bafoons! At least they acknowledged
the problems with their one-way offerings and pulled it from the market for
new users.
