To burn at 8x on your 486 box, you may want to try these things:

- Install or increase external L2 cache
- Get a faster 486, say 100MHz
- Pentium Overdrive or AMD 133Mhz CPU
- Perhaps more RAM would help

There are other more expensive options, like trying the real SCSI
version of the CD-R drive. Of course, increasing your CPU speed may
require increasing your bus speed to 33MHz, if you're not already there.
That will dramatically increase your memory bandwidth.
