Exactly. I was thinking that Linux and MacOS should be coming around at
about the same time. It'll be interesting (or tiring, depending on one's
level of cynicism) how things shake out. Personally, I'd like the free OS
to make it big...

Your point that our assumptions (Unix is stable, Mac is usable) have been
unchallenged was also well taken. They *could* be challenged...consider
AS/400, ITS, Plan 9, Star, AmigaOS. But in practical terms, Unix and MacOS
are the only two real choices these days. As marginalized as they are,
their possible challengers are birutally unheard of.
