Rather not spend the money at all...

It occurs to me that SuSE Linux is known for having new XFree86 servers
first, because they do a lot of in-house development on that (they are
later released to the X Consortium, and they're still GPL'd, of course).
Looking in my little brochure, I see no mention good or bad of the
QVision, so I can't say. This is outdated though; it's worth checking
their site <www.suse.com>. They may well have something that works for
you.

I'd assume so, too; they are a regular commercial company. You might get
an educational discount and/or bulk discount, I dunno. :/

What exactly is the problem? Does the server die when you try it out, or
does it look all nasty? Because if it looks nasty, that means that it does
work, and then you can poke the configuration until it looks right. I've
poked a few X configurations in my time (it's a favorite game of mine), so
I could help you out sometime if you like.
