From reading the linux news groups, the RPMs at Red Hat are way behind
the latest developments.  Getting fresh sources from www.gnome.org
would seem to be required.

I would guess that you will have to use Orbit (which has now completely
replaced MICO).

I guess one question is what application do you want to write that is
not being worked on already?  Joining the gnome effort should get you
lots of advice and support.
