You mean the :rp=... line? OK, I changed that to hp4000, but it didn't
help. The RedHat Control-Panel reports the same error message when I try
to print a test page.

The :rp=... stuff is labeled "Remote Queue" in the Print Tool program
within Control-Panel. The documentation for these Control Panel apps is
quite sparse.
