DNS server timing out

To start, here is my LAN setup:

Linux box connected to my ISP with 56K modem
NT Server box-primary DNS setup as Linux machine, secondary my ISP's
DNS server
NT Workstation box
Win 95 box

I use a BBS package called Wildcat 5 (or WINS) for WWW/POP3/SMTP/FTP.

Lately I've been getting messages in my SMTP logs about DNS timeouts.
My mail has not been going out due to the system not being able to
resolve hostnames. This started to happen on the 11th.

On my NT server, I used nslookup to lookup one of the hostnames where
mail was going to be sent to (yahoo.com). I was receiving DNS timeout
messages before the result was displayed.

I then changed my primary DNS host on the NT server to use my ISPs DNS
instead of my own. I did a nslookup on yahoo.com again and received a
response right away.

I rebooted my Linux machine but that didn't help. Any ideas on what
other things I should be looking at to figure out why my DNS server on
my Linux box it timing out?

Thanks,

Jen
