Re: [TCLUG:3673] TCP/IP performance problem.

Any interesting messages in /var/log/messages when doing this? What
does your /etc/hosts file look like? It may not seem to be a DNS
problem but you might be waiting for a timeout on a lookup or reverse
lookup (for IP addresses). Just throwing things out there, good luck,

I'm having what appears to be a TCP/IP performance problem on my
home
network. Another PC on the same network takes 30-40 seconds to
telnet to
my Linux box, even when I telnet by IP address only (i.e. it is not
DNS)... It is intermittant; but it happens 70% of the time...
Also,
seemingly related; some of the networking utils suffer from the same
delays: netstat & route.

My network configuration is this:

Primary Logical Network: 192.168.1.0 class C. Linux box is
192.168.1.1
(eth0)

Second Logical Network: 163.228.0.0, class B. Linux box is
163.228.19.194 (eth0:0)

Both neworks are on the same physical network, but the problem exists
even
if I am connecting from two PC's on the same logical network... (i.e.
I
don't think the second logical network is part of the problem)

Here are the outputs of all of the networking utils:

butch# ifconfig

I'm not real sure what the 255.255.255.255 entry is, I think it is
being
created somehow, because it comes back if I delete it. The problem
happens in both version 2.0.33 and 2.2.0-pre7... The hardware is
not the
best, but is more than adaquate (486DX2/80 w/ 32MB)

Anybody have any ideas? I'm stuck!
