COW 3.0 pl1 has been released a few weeks ago. Maybe you missed that.
The ftp dir at the uni-linz server is not maintained anymore. I moved everything
to the COW Web server http://cow.netrek.org/

The COW sources are placed under CVS source control:

Server is:  cowsrc.netrek.org
CVS path:  /cvs/cow

As default logins we have the following read only logins available:

Login    Password
cow      cow
guest    guest
netrek   netrek

To get the COW src now from the CVS tree set the CVROOT variable to

:pserver:cow@cowsrc.netrek.org:/cvs

If you are planing to do some work on COW, I may give you R/W access
to the CVS tree, so that you may add all your changes directly.
Just send me your login and the crypted password to include.
