Non Linux question, but.....

For 500+ Windows boxes...aren't you using active directory?

If you do use AD and do DHCP and DNS off the Windows server, your DNS
entries will update automatically.

Then with bind you have a number of options. Add a forwarder to the
windows DNS server, add the windows DNS as a master or slave zone, etc.
You can also setup the winders DHCP server to automatically update a bind
server, but I never got that to work myself. AD does work with BIND and
DHCP, and there are documents out there on how to do it. Apperently some
large customers didn't like the idea of turning DNS and DHCP over to M$
when Windows 2000 was being tested, so the support to do it is
there...it's just not as point and click as using Windows...
