With Ascend's recomendations to only put 2 trunks in a 40xx,
NFAS doesn't do anything...

however if you have multiple MAX units all in a hunt group,
you can configure them all as 23B+D/24B,
then in the event of a D channel failure you WILL loose two trunks,
but the hunt group will still have other Maxen.

Of possible interest is that some CLECs charge more for a 
D than for a B, ex: A local access PRI from MCI,
a B chan is $20-$30/month and a D chan is $100,
so you save $70/mo per trunk pair to consolidate two trunks to one D.
