RE: (ASCEND) T1 provisoning hints
The thread titled "T1 Provisioning Hints" is EXACTLY the
sort of information that I would wish to see on Ascend's
WebSite, and in their manuals.
The interaction between various Ascend products and the
telco facilities "connected" to them is likely a common
confusing problem for many Ascend customers.
When one has a problem, the usual sequence of events is
to call either one's local telco or Ascend, and attempt
to work the issue. Without fail, one ends up calling
whichever party one did NOT call first, since there is
a good chance that the party first called will ask a
question that must be answered by the second.
The savings to Ascend phone bills on their 800-number
alone would be considerable.
I would suggest that there are (in the US, at least)
additional major application areas where similar "hints"
could be of value, including:
1) PRIs
2) Frame Relay (64Kbps - T-1)
3) T-1s as point-to-point links
4) Telco-provided clocking
5) Power-up and reset sequence of events
for each Ascend product, including the
interaction with the telco facilities,
and failure symptoms that would appear
from a failure at any step in the process.
As for T-1s, the thread sent to the list seems fairly complete,
so I would at least send each contributor an Ascend t-shirt in
"payment" for their contribution to Ascend's base of tech support
information.
