Just curious to see if you have *tried* this with the Ascend Radius
daemon....?

What does a syslog message have to do with killing RADIUS ?

At startup, the MAX sends a bunch of auth requests for various pseudo
users (like Banner, route-x etc.). I imagine that any non-Ascend version
of the daemon just doesn't handle them too well (but crash ??).
