Yup.  That's one of the reasons I wasn't impressed when Ascend told me
that the quaint idea of having the immediate modem port enabled on an
Internet acessable box was something they had never imagined.  I reported
a problem where it allows anyone to completely crash your Max (worse than
reboot; slows down, takes 60 seconds to respond to a ping and everything
else is just as bad) just by making ~60 or 80 telnet connections to the
immediate modem port (no need to login, just need to be able to telnet to
it).  The response I got was that they couldn't imagine why someone would
make that many connections (apparently the Internet is one big happy
family) and that I should submit it as a feature request.  Sheesh.  I was
given the impression that the technical support guy had no way to
communicate with anyone who could do anything to the code nor did he have
any internal system to submit such problems himself.

Since feature request == blackhole, it seems to me like they don't care
one bit about making the software work except for certain standard
configurations used by large customers.  Or... maybe they don't even care
about those.
