Re: (ASCEND) Feature Requests and Ascend?

To be honest, I can't imagine it either - this is just a problem waiting
to happen. Why would anyone want a modem port that any person could get
to? Immediate modem is useful in controlled environments, which the
Internet definitely *isn't*. If you want to control the usage then just
don't use immediate modem - use the terminal server mode and the "open"
command. This allows you to limit access to the modem to those people
who have terminal server access privileges.

No, it isn't and that is the point! Don't enable a feature like that in
an Internet environment unless you have some sort of firewall or packet
filter protecting the MAX from unauthorized access. If you want to be
able to check access permissions then go through the terminal server.
If you don't want to check access permissions but want to limit access
then install a packet filter or firewall to limit access - Ascend has
both filters (by default) and firewalls (available separately) that can
be applied to the Ethernet interface (Ethernet->Mod Config->Filter).

So I guess if I was the Ascend representative, I would be confused by
your needs too.

Maybe I am missing your point, but immediate modem is not enabled by
default, so it should not be a risk unless you enable it.
