(ASCEND) connection problems with MAX 4048



Recently, my customers have been experiencing problems connecting to my
MAX 4048 when it is near full.  They may connect without problem or they
may try all night and can't connect until the morning.  I am getting the
complaint regularly now, and I have confirmed the problem with two
different computers of my own.  I do not know whether to blame it on the
MAX, RADIUS, or the Telco.  I have included the symptoms below hoping that
someone has had the same problems and can help me solve.

Symptoms

MAX 4048 with 5.0Ap11

PPP with modems / no ISDN users.
Radius Auth with default UNIX

Modem speed and brand does not seem to make a difference.

Windows 95 users receive the following error message.

	Dial-Up Networking could not negotiate a compatible set of netowrk
	protocols you specified in the Server Type settings.  Check your
	network configuration in the Control Panel then try the connection
	again.

You can predict when this message will come up if it takes more than two
or three seconds to verify username and password. 

I have tried different DUN settings and modem settings, but nothing makes
a difference.

Windows 3.1 users get something like
	Cannot negotiate connection. (Failed)


Problem goes away when the MAX's load goes back down.

Here are 6 samples of the Radius detail log when I tried with my computer.
I actually connected twice within this time period, but I did not include
those logs below.
