(ASCEND) Fatal Error on 4048

I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but this morning our max
4048 hung, a couple days after upgrading to 5.0Ap27.  This is what i
have in the fatal history:

During this time, the machine wouldn't answer any incoming calls.  Any
