(ASCEND) Max4000 & WINS

We have a customer who has the IP address of 2 WINS servers
set up under:

Ethernet/Mod Config. They also have a DNS entry set up for
their DNS server. They can ping items by name if they are
listed on the DNS server just fine. Their complaint is that
"WINS doesn't work.". When the users dial in via modem, they
use an IP pool which assigns an address and all IP addresses
are pingable, including the WINS servers, and all items by
name that are listed in their DNS server. However, they
complain that WINS does not work. In other words, the WINS
servers are assigned to the WIn95 dial in clients (they only
use TCP/IP as their protocol on the dial-up adapter. However,
they cannot ping anything by name (from the dial-in client or
the MAX) that is assigned by the WINS server and does not
reside in the DNS server. I do not use WINS enough to
understand anything other than it is a way to resolve NetBIOS
names from TCP/IP addresses. Everything else works fine
though. The MAX version is 5.0A. If this is even a logical
question, I am unsure, but I hope someone can help clear this
up for me.

Best regards,

Lou.
