Re: (ASCEND) Max 4000 memory (fwd)

Once upon a time Bao C. Ha shaped the electrons to say...
>How does the Max 4000 w/48 modems compared to a cisco AS5200? Just
>dial-in?
>
>Also, it looks like I can put 6 of the 16-port modem card into it,
>for a total of 96 modems. Am I dreaming?

Yes, you're dreaming. A 4000 series can only use 4x16, for 64 modems. The
max modem density is 6x12, for 72 modems. Only the 6000 series can use
6x16 for 96. I believe they also have a 20 modem card on the way for 6x20
or 120 for E1 countries.

Persoanlly I would recommend only using 2 PRIs or CT1s on a 4000, 3 MAX.
Don't bother trying to use 4, it doesn't deal with the load. The AS5200 is
a 2 port unit only. Both are somewhat outdated - the 4000 has been supplanted
by the 6000, and the AS5200 by the AS5300. Both the 6000 and the 5300
can take 4 PRI/T1s and sustain the load, and thye have a lot more future
growth in them. The 4000 and AS5200 are basically run out, IMHO.
