You can use my traffic log daemon for this:

You simply give it the connection names and it automatically figures out the
interface numbers and collects the traffic statistics at regular intervals.
However, unlike MRTG it doesn't process the data. You only get the raw
numbers and have to use other tools to make nice graphics etc.
