(ASCEND) compaq presario (fwd)

We have new problems with compaq presario's
new systems purchased in the last month or so. Models 5610 and 5660.  They
have the
Rockwell 56k HCF pci modems.

In one customer:  The modem connects ok at 34,000 bps
(ping response times 300 milliseconds..could be better).  It works for
a few minutes.. maybe up to 20 minutes, but then the speed drops
so tremendously so that the ping response times are 100,000 mseconds.

Compaq says to have the customer call them.  They tell the customer that
there is nothing wrong with their modem and it must be the ISP.  I call
them and they say to have the customer call them.....

Does anyone else have this new problem?  Can anyone help?
