(ASCEND) More Disconnects with 6.1.3?
I upgraded my Max4048 to 6.1.3 on Saturday night/Sunday morning. No IP
leaks, but some customers are complaining about being disconnected
frequently. The funny thing is that these users don't all have USR or x2 or
v.90 modems. Most of these users have v.34 modems. Why would an upgrade in
the 56k protocol affect v.34 users?
On a related note, in months past, I've had to tell users to turn off their
56k protocol and force the modem to connect at 33.6. It seems that on some
phone lines (even "brand new" lines run in new subdivisions) that the 56k
protocol simply wouldn't establish connections. The exact same computer,
using the exact same modem, in our office, would connect perfectly. Also,
it seems that some users have BETTER luck connecting to ISP's that use
crappy analog lines than us with pure digital lines. Has anyone had any
experience with situations like these and what I can do to help the phone
company better understand how to fix them? Perhaps a quick primer on telco
technology and what the most common mistakes a telco does that affects
connection quality would be helpful.
Thanks,
Marcel
