(ASCEND) Old P50 and TAOS v6.1.X
As some of you may have noticed from my postings before,
I've made myself a bit of a historian for Pipeline hardware.
If you have an older model P50, with slide switch,
there are at least two or three actual hardware revisions,
but they all run the same core software... Of particular note,
and the reason you'll still be able to run TAOS 6.1.X,
is that the last hardware rev of the P50 with slide switch
has connectors for a daughter card, so that the only difference
between a P50, a P75, and a P130 is the card attached (or lack thereof)
"What's your point?" you ask, well here it is:
A P50 (slide switch model ONLY!) can run software loads
for a P75 (b.p75, bia.p75) or a P130 (b.p13, bia.p13)
"What good does that do me?" you ask...
there is a build of 6.1.3 for the P130
"It won't really work will it?" you ask...
yes, it does, at least for what I need.
there are some features that were removed presumably to get 6.1 to fit
into the memory space on the P50/P75/P130, and though I haven't
discovered all of them yet the one that stands out most is
that in 6.0.x you can do single or multi-address NAT,
and in 6.1.x you can do only single-address NAT.
While I've not tried it with a P75 with slide switch
(ie, a P50 + POTS card) I'd expect you could load a P50/P130 image
on it as long as you don't need the POTS ports
(and if you don't need the POTS ports, can I have your card? *grin*)
Standard Disclaimer:
If you don't already know how to bypass the error
"This load appears to be for another platform."
this is probably not for you.
or you don't already know how to clear the software image
out of flash memory if your upload gets messed up,
this is probably not for you.
uploading software of the wrong platform type is almost
certainly NOT supported by Ascend, and if you follow these
steps you may void waranties or support policies.
I do not claim that this will work for everyone,
or even anyone at all, only that it did work for me.
I will not be responsible for anyone who damages their Pipeline.
If you are not comfortable with the ideas presented here,
or you are not willing to live with the consequences if your pipeline dies,
_DON'T_ try it.
