Well, I must say that I do agree with you... And now is coming 7.0b0 out...
What we are looking for is a <STABLE> release of code, not an always
growing release number with an increasing number of features that some
of us don't ask for, and an ever increasing number of TRs opened but not
so often closed...
So question : what does justify the need for 7.0b0 when so many people are
still complaining about 6.1.x ? I remember some (long, too long ?) time
ago people from Ascend explained me that p branch was for corrections (patches)
and the i branch for added features requested by some users, and from
time to time, p and i were merged into a new versions... This was probably
true with 5.0ApXX which has had a long life, and came out to please so many
people... 6.X.Y was presented as a brand new progress, supposedly stable
and the next great step from Ascend... Well it seems that this progress means
that 6.1.3 is answering with is secondary IP address to traceroute, has
some leaky IP pools, and some more...
What about fixing all that before going to 7.0 ?
Paul, who'd be much more enjoying its holidays if I could read from
Ascend that a new effort was put on 6.X.Y instead of 7.X.Y... and fearing
the whole new bunch of bug that will come out of these new features in
7.0...
