(ASCEND) Ascend P50 used for "dedicated" ISDN

We have a number of clients who have a custoflex ISDN setup where the
Telco provisions two ISDN circuits out of the same Central Office and
enables and Intercom Calling capability so as to avoid the per minute line
charges of ISDN. (i.e. one cir. connects with the second cir. just by
dialing the last 4 digits of the remote isdn line).

This type of circuit is supposed to be up all the time, however, with an
Ascend 50 on either side of the circuits, I've seen the connection die.
The only immediate fix I've found is to do a Sys Reset on the ISP (my)
Ascend P50. This only lasts for a limited time.

I've attempted to enable the Syslog feature on the ISP Ascend, however,
nothing is logged into the directory I've specified.

Can anyone offer insight into this problem? I will offer as much
additional information as necessary
