I've found using a flat blade screwdriver on each side of the case at the
front (i.e. where the front panel clips in) lets me lever the backplane
off quite easily.

On a related note, where do I buy replacement fans for the small fans in a
4000?  Does everyone else simply bolt a big fan on the outside of the
case?
