(ASCEND) How do you setup the MAX 6096 to authenticate with RADIUS?

Tuesday, Ameritech installed our ISDN line, and Wednesday then turned the
line up.  We are now trying to configure the unit to authenticate with our
RADIUS server (Cistron-RADIUS).  I have put the IP address of the server
into the MAX, and I do see authentication packets being logged to the detail
file.  But I see no entries being made to the radius.log and the only
entries in the message log are:

May 18 01:30:40 max6000 ASCEND: call 44 AN slot 6 port 8 VOICE 555-5555
May 18 01:31:32 max6000 ASCEND: call 44 CL 0K   c=2 p=40 s=33600 r=28800

Do I need to create Answer/Connect profiles?

I can connect to the server with HyperTerm, where I am presented with the
ascend% prompt.

When connecting with DUN, windows reports either "Unable to negotiate a
compatible protocol" or "Server not responding".

Does anyone have a cheat sheet on how to set this server up for an ISP
environment with a RADIUS server?
