a bug or a feature?

the chaos sword has hit-point regeneration -5 and spell-point
regeneration -4.. why does it still increase the food consumption to
enormous level?? I would understand if it would speed up regeneration
that it would then increase metabolism also but with -5??

and why does the arena still crash every first time you enter there?
