show them Lynx or w3c on a nice Linux console. 
show them how *fast* it is (how much banner ads and sound and big graphics
slow things down), show them how easy it is to read (or be conveted to
synthesized speech for blind web users), show them configurability (like
being able to deny cookies from an entire site). 

use sites like kernel.org or mutt.org or freshmeat; which work very well.
contrast that to lordoftherings.com (which doesn't even look nice in
Netscape 4.72).
