It is extremely hard to compare these.  I've run Sun boxes that had processors
that were small fractions of the 'MIPS' ratings of Intel and seen the Sun boxes
far outperform the Intel boxes on I/O and serving up graphics to large numbers
of X-Terminals.  On paper the Intel boxes looked much better.

To do a decent comparison you will need to define what your needs are, and
then compare the factors that contribute to your intended use.

Note that I am not comparing WIndows to Solaris, I am comparing Solaris (and
other Unix/Linux) to Solaris/Unix/Linux on both platforms.
