Re: [TCLUG:18699] Intel vs Sun

Ok. Here's a little bit more of info. Im trying to build a very high
available load balanced website, where the content is published through
Apache, ColdFusion and Oracle. A basic setup is this: Apache and CF on
one box and Oracle on the other. I need a solution that can expand both
the webserver/cf server and Oracle server independant of each other.
I envision the Oracle server supporting 2 to 8 webservers/cf servers. I
also envision that multiple Oracle servers( currently there is only one )
will then use native Oracle replication services to distribute data
content to the other Oracle servers. So I could have at a mininum
6 boxes, 4 webservers and 2 database servers. My current choices are
Intel/RedHat or Sun Solaris, all servers will be of one hardware vendor.
My biggest problem is that the licensing of Oracle is sensitive to
the mhz speed. So I need to research the most cost effective solution
to get the biggest cpu/mhz bang in the Intel or Sun environment. Changing
Apache, ColdFusion, and Oracle are not options.
