Color term question

This is just an bit of trivia I haven't been able to figure out -- on one of the
Linux machines I have here, if I run rxvt with a black background & white text
(as is my wont), manpages become unreadable -- highlighted text shows up as
white text on a bright yellow background.  I can't figure out if this is an
option in man, less, or rxvt.  Does anybody know how I control these colors?
