Actually it was based off of BRMH from '93, and it was a collaboration
between me and Kevin Powell. Kevin did most of the work on that client, I
hosted the ftp site.
Actually I believe the original intention behind the name 'COW-lite' was a
version of COW that didn't have some of the goofy features. Unfortunately I
think instead we ended up adding a lot of goofy features like continuous
mouse, beep-lite, etc. Although I think beep-lite was added to COW at the
same time.
Beep-lite was written by Jeff Nelson, probably in '94. I think at the time
the concept was that teams all playing in the same room had verbal cues that
couldn't be duplicated by at-large teams. He thought this would help
highlight the messages.
I have all the original source going back to version 1.0 of COWl which was
released in 11/93. 1.2 is dated 5/94. Although Shekters windows changes
are dated 12/94, at least in my copy.
Anyway, I'm surprised this is a problem. I have no way of testing for it
right now though.
After I get my DSL line installed tomorrow, I'm going to probably spend
more time on netrek and clean up this client stuff.
