COWlite

Hi,

I'm the guy who had the weird problem with COWlite. First of
all, I'll tell you I'll be darned if I know how I ended up with this client.
I probably just picked it at semi-random when I started out. I know I
found it off of a link from netrek.org and have used it ever since.

Quozl sent me:

"Are you using TCP or UDP? Are you using short packets? Are
you using short packets 2? How about SELF_8FLAGS? I can't
find cow-lite binaries anywhere, or the source code either. I'd say
this was a bug in cow-lite, and you should just use a client that's
not so ancient."

...I can't claim to know my way around netrekrc / cowlitrc too well,
but here's what it looks like. Says it's using 'simple UDP'. As for
short packets: cowlitrc claims it isn't trying to use them, netrekrc
claims it is. I have no idea why, or which one to believe. I can't find
any mention of SELF_8FLAGS or short packets *2*, meaning that
if this client is archaic as you make it out to be, I can only guess
that they weren't invented/implemented yet.
As for not using an ancient client, I'd be happy to make a
switch... any suggestions? I'm using Windows 95, and I like to
keep the graphics as simple and readable as possible.

Thanks,
