wish: authenticated access for bypassing bans

Due to a particularly annoying player and loads of complaints, I had to
ban some subdomains of uu.net.  This has had an unfortunate effect, in
that many players have been unable to play; not just the offending one.

Any ideas for how to implement some sort of authenticated access, i.e.
mark certain character names as permitted to bypass bans.

Any other solutions?
