I'll answer what I can, which is that I've run OSPF between a 4000 and a
TNT for most of 1997, and OSPF has certainly gotten better (more stable). I
use OSPF to advertise when a subnet-routed connection comes up, so I don't
have to worry about which POP people use. In my simple situation, it works
great, although a couple of bugs remain.

Just be sure you fclear, fsave, nvramclear when you load the OSPF version
of the code. It seems to make for less fatal errors down the line.

I'm not that far ahead of you, but I do have it working and it was just
about the easiest thing I've set up with these damn things. ;-)
