|All PRI's are mux'd into a DS3 as soon as they hit the CO.
|Your allready using a DS3 now. PRI's are much less reliable, cards fail,
|copper fails. DS3's reliability is much higher the DS1's. By going with a
|DS3 handoff you elimiate an extra de-mux/mux step and the equipment point

This is absolute BS. Of the main top3 Class 5 Switches (Lucent 5ESS,
Nortel DMS100/500, Siemens) none of them have working STS-1 (DS3)
interfaces yet. Every RBOC/CLEC is using T1s for intraoffice trunks
and for PRIs to end users.

On the transport side, your telco is just muxing T1s into DS3s to
transport to you, and then demuxing them into T1s to deliver to your
demarc. A DS3 interface on your equipment will save the demux at the
very end of the chain, but the originating circuit is STILL a T1.
