Re: (ASCEND) 56K Modem Throughput Degradation
Here is a really good message from one of my users that he can
duplicate at will (the results, not the message). If you'd like to verify
this by calling into my 56K modems I can give you the phone number.

Rob,
Some 56k Data for you:
I did a download from fuse using netscape (jpegview 566k) after connecting
at 36,000 to the 0709 number. The download started at 4.3k and dropped a
little to between 4.0 and 3.9k and stayed right around there, then at
around 25k, it paused for a pretty long time (10-20 seconds) and then
began again at 2.9 to 3.0k (stayed that way to the end)
Then I called the 5335 number, got a 31200 connect and started the same
download. it started at 4.3 and dropped to 3.4 almost immediately and
then stayed pretty much right there the whole time.
Then I reconnected to the 0709 number and downloaded paint shop pro (1907k)
It started at 4.7 and quickly dropped to 3.6 then at 6% there was a 10 - 20
second puase and it picked back up at 2.5 and then worked back up to 3.0.
Then at 15% I got dropped.
Then I reconnected to 5335 and downloaded it getting right around 3.0 the
whole time. Then I went to bed with eudora pro running the whole time and
the connection stayed up for 11 hours. (I can't seem to keep a 56k connection
up for 20 minutes)
