There is little or no real information provided by this person to help
them out.
If their modem is locking up then it sounds like a problem with that modem,
not the MAX. Knowing that there the Rockwell code in 5.0Ap16 is not the
latest I think you need to do some work to prove it.
1) What is the output of the ATI3 and ATI7 commands on their modem?
Check with 3Com/USRobotics tech support <support@usr.com> and see if
they are using the current rev of firmware.
2) Are they are using the suggested modem init strings?
Check the Ascend WWW site - http://www.ascend.com/faqs/500/index.html
3) Have they tried disabling V.42bis? [Check the messages about
"(ASCEND) USR V.42bis problem update" from the mailing list archive]
4) Are they using LQM? Their PPP software should shut down the connection
if they are using LQM and LQM fails. If LQM is not failing, then it
sounds like the modem is not locked up (or they have a broken PPP
implementation). If they are not using LQM, you should have them
enable it.
5) Are you sure the modem is locked up? Do you still see the call connected
on your end (the MAX)? Do you still see the routes in the routing
table? Can you "ping" them? Are you seeing the ifInOctets and/or
ifOutOctets count increase? If you drop the connection do they see
the modem hang up?
