(ASCEND) Max 4000 Fatal Error 1001, revision 6.1.7

This morning, about 75 hours after we upgraded our MAXen to revision 6.1.7
we got our first reboot, FE index 1001, 1006, and 1012 (details below).  

Some pertinent details:  We have 4 MAX 4004s in a hunt group, all running
v6.1.7 microcode.  We upgraded all of them Friday morning (8/21) and
had experienced no particular problems until Monday morning (8/24) about
8:00 AM.  

Our last MAX in the hunt group, the only one with 56K-capable modems
installed, seemed to stop responding at 8:00 AM.  After hooking a serial
connection to the box, it acted and looked normal from the serial
interface but was not passing any traffic whatsoever through the Ethernet
port.  It was as if the Ethernet interface was "locked up".  I was not
able to ping the default gateway or any other address (I should have tried
pinging itself but didn't think of that until now).  

No transmit/receive lights were flashing on the rear of the unit near the
Ethernet port.  I tried reseating the RJ-45 and even using a different
cable in case something went bad but this did not work either.  The fatal
error log below confirms that something did happen so there was in fact a
problem with the unit and it was not a problem with the cable.

Our 4 MAXen are running OSPF and Stacking.  I did a memory check on the
box in question (pools -v) and there was plenty of availble memory (just
over 1.1 MB, no errors).  It just seemed to stop routing.  It did not
reboot until I forced a reboot (fsave and nvramclear).
