Newbie hint; possible spoiler:

Hit them with melee weaponry until they are grazed, and then hit them
with a magic bullet.  The experience points are credited to the skill
that did the killing, instead of according to what did the damage.

Another one; If firing magic bullets into a monster, the one that kills
tends to go right through, so aim by preference for a monster with one
behind it.

Even throwing silver coins can do damage.  Remember to pick them up.
