	I have a 512kbit DSL line.  I pay US-West $65.00 and Visi $50.00
and I have a static IP.  If I wanted 8 static IPs (5 usable) I'd have to
pay another $20/mo.  This is worth it to me because I run a webserver
and a chat room on my computer.  If I ever get another computer, I'll be
able to one or more of those to the other computer.

	If I'm not bandwidth limited by the site I'm talking to, I
consistently get 516096 bps, or slightly more.  I get about the same
upstream as downstream.  If I have several connections going at once,
bandwidth is divided equally among them.

	DSL was incredibly simple to install.  The Cisco 675
modem/router is nice, and provides some limited firewalling abilities.
It will also send packets to a remote syslogd, so my router errors show
up in my system logs.  My only hitch was getting cu to talk to the DSL
router properly through the null-modem cable they provide.

	I think that DSL (where you can get it) has it all over cable,
largely because you can pick your ISP.  Having an ISP that will cater to
weird requests can be important if you want to do more with your
computer than browse the web and download stuff.  Not only that, but you
aren't sharing your pipe to your ISP with anybody.

	Yeah, OK, it all goes through one ATM router at the ISP, but I
haven't seen that pipe ever saturate with VISI.  Go down, yes, but not
saturate.
