FWIW, I would far prefer to see server-side stuff like perl/PHP come before
JavaScript, since I have seen a *lot* of really abominable (IOW 'nearly
unusable') JavaScript lately; but never had a problem with anything using PHP. 
        of course, the fact that I refuse to use IE5 might have something to
do with that. :)

        am I understanding your statement correctly?


in other website news, daemonnews.org has been running a an excellent series
of articles on how to manage a web site using Makefiles and CVS. seems like
really thoughtful stuff; and is not BSD-centric (author explicitly tells how
to do the same things in Linux or other Unices).
